As a Hartpury sport student, you’ll have access to our outstanding facilities and lecturers – we’re ranked in the top 10 UK universities for Teaching Quality (The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide, 2024) and are home to top-level coaches, sport and exercise scientists, nutritionists, conditioners, medics and athletes. We also have excellent graduate prospects with 97% of our sport graduates in employment, further study or other purposeful activity (Graduate Outcomes, 2023)
We’re a semi-professional sports environment offering world-class facilities, as well as professional coaching and support services. You could choose to train as an athlete alongside your studies by becoming a part of one of our nine Sports Academy programmes. Our academies have produced over 200 international sports stars over recent years.
With excellent links to sports clubs, schools and national governing bodies, when our students aren’t developing their skills on campus they’re competing, working with athletes or inspiring the next generation of sportspeople.

Performance sport at Hartpury
If you’re playing sport competitively, or you have the talent and drive to do so, you may want to join one of our Sports Academies. You’ll be supported to achieve excellence in your sporting area and your academic studies. Our Sports Academy staff are among the best in their respective fields. They’ve competed or worked at professional levels and continue to uphold their standards through strong links with their national governing bodies.
From Olympic Gold equestrian athletes to professional footballers and GB rowing coaches, you can be confident that you’ll learn from some of the best at Hartpury.
If you’re someone who prefers to play for fun, you can still access many of our exceptional facilities that are open for all of our students, not just those who are part of Hartpury’s academy squads. There’s also the opportunity to try something new with turn-up-and-play sessions across sports, including basketball and women’s hockey.
Student life in Gloucestershire
With a lively nightlife, over 45 music and arts festivals each year, big sports events, the Cheltenham Gold Cup, and a whole host of outdoor adventure activities, it’s no wonder Gloucestershire is the top choice of so many students.
You’ll never be short of something to do. From the miles of great outdoors to cafes, snack bars and restaurants, as well as boutique and budget shopping, there’s something to suit every mood.
And with shuttle buses to run you in and out the bustling city centre of Gloucester, and nearby town of Cheltenham, life at Hartpury is never dull!
