We study people. How they move, how they think, and how they react under pressure. We study how bodies respond to exercise: from couch to 5k, to monitoring elite athletic performance. We examine how exercise is beneficial before surgical procedures, how exercise benefits mental health and much, much more.

Lancaster University’s Sports and Exercise Science degree will open doors to a career in the sports industry or beyond. It could lead to employment in the private and public sectors, including the NHS, local authorities, national sporting associations, education, professional sports clubs, and the community.

Tutorials and workshops on career planning are integral parts of your degree. You will undertake a module in employability skills, giving you excellent preparation for applying to graduate-level jobs and graduate schemes, and our dedicated Careers Service are here to help you every step of the way
Facilities
You will have classes in the Human Performance Lab from the very start of your studies, that will train you on the cutting-edge technology used by today’s elite athletes. These include the HP Cosmos treadmill, Biodex isokinetic dynamometer, Cortex online gas analysis system, electronically braked cycle ergometers, and our Optojump performance assessment system to name just a few. In the lab, you will gain the skills to capture and analyse physiological and biomechanical data to better understand human performance and activity, how to act to enhance performance and activity, and how to provide feedback to athletes, patients and the public.

Our courses
Our Sports and Exercise Science degree programmes are accredited by the British Association of Sports and Exercise Science (BASES). In their own words, accreditation provides reassurance that the degree course provides a robust curriculum and ensures graduating students are well prepared to enter into the sport and exercise profession.
