Careers in Sport were delighted to organise the Swansea University Careers Event for the Sport and Exercise Science students from Swansea University recently.
Leading professionals from the sports industry delivered presentations which offered students plenty of insightful advice as they look to forge their own career in the industry.

Keynote Opening
Harvey Grout, Managing Director, Careers in Sport
Harvey launched Careers in Sport in 2008 to help young people know about the diverse careers available in the sport and fitness industries and understand the experience and qualifications required for young people to achieve their career goals.
Careers in Sport has since developed into the number one source for jobs in sport, with the website attracting over 200,000 visitors a year, in addition to being the go-to organisation for young people embarking upon their sporting career.
Danny Holdcroft, Head of Performance, British Skeleton
Dannys career has spanned football, tennis and the English Institute of Sport, and for the past fourteen years seen him as one of the integral mainstays to British Skeleton becoming Great Britain most successful Winter Sport. Winning 3 consecutive Olympic gold medals, and a further 4 medallist’s from the last five Olympic Games.
Chantal Duarte, Sport and Exercise Scientist (Psychology Support)/Performance and Operations Manager, Game Changer Performance.
Chantal has worked in the field of performance sport throughout her career. She is currently a sport psychology practitioner and provides psychological support to organisations and athletes in elite, professional, and amateur sport. She is also the Performance and Operations Manager at Game Changer Performance, a sport science provider delivering residential injury rehabilitation for professional football players at St George’s Park, the home of English Football.
David Harvey, Performance Scientist, McLaren Formula 1
Operating in between the small space of interpreting early stage academic research and applying this with athletes, David Harvey is the Performance Scientist for McLaren Applied Technologies. Harvey has over 10 years of extensive industry experience working delivering quantifiable performance advantage across the spectrum of health, wellness and elite sport, working with his team to develop transformative products and solutions. In 2014 he achieved British Association of Sport & Exercise Science (BASES) accreditation becoming the only UK sport scientist to specialise in Formula 1.
CLOSING KEYNOTE
Dr Steve Ingham, Managing Director, Supporting Champions
Dr Steve Ingham is one of the UK’s leading figures in sport and one of the world’s leading performance scientists. He is steeped in high performance and has been integral to the development of Britain into an Olympic superpower. He has provided support to over 1000 athletes, of which over 200 have achieved World or Olympic medal success, including some of the world’s greatest athletes such as Jessica Ennis-Hill, Sir Steve Redgrave and Sir Matthew Pinsent. Steve has coached Kelly Sotherton’s running for heptathlon and to 4x400m Olympic medal winning success.
Steve has gained high performance insight working at the British Olympic Association from 1998 to 2004, where he was Senior Sports Physiologist and Sports Science Manager; and at the English Institute of Sport, from 2004 to 2016, where he was Head of Physiology and latterly the Director of Science and Technical Development, leading a team of 200 scientists in support of Team GB and Paralympics GB. Ingham holds a BSc, PhD and is a Fellow of the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences.
