Kickstart Your Career in Sport with GLA & London VRU-Funded Internships at Coach Core!
Are you passionate about using sport to make a difference? Are you aged 18-24 and ready to kickstart your career in the sports industry? If so, we’ve got an exciting opportunity just for you! Coach Core, in partnership with the Greater London Authority (GLA) and the London Violence Reduction Unit (VRU), is offering a paid internship for 14 months, aimed at young people from all kinds of backgrounds, especially those who don’t usually get these opportunities in sport.
Why Apply?
At Coach Core, we know that the sports industry doesn’t always reflect the amazing diversity of London. That’s why we want to change that! If you’ve faced barriers or discrimination or just haven’t had the chance to get into sport, this internship is for you. We’re especially looking to hear from young people who are:
- From ethnically diverse backgrounds
- From low-income households or care leavers
- Young women, LGBTQ+, or SEND (Special Educational Needs)
- Not currently in education, employment, or training (NEET) or have been NEET in the past
You’ll have the chance to work in roles like sport for development, employability support, mentoring, fundraising, and marketing. No matter what you’re passionate about, this internship will help you build real-world experience and make an impact in the sports sector!
About the Internship
- Duration: 14 months
- Hours: 4 days per week (28 hours)
- Salary: London Living Wage, £19,150 per year, plus travel expenses to sites.
- Location: On Mondays, you’ll work from our Collinson’s 3 More Place office (London Bridge), and for the rest of the week, you’ll have a mix of home working and travel across England, including community sports venues and events. We’ll cover all your travel expenses for work-related trips across the UK.
- No experience needed: All you need is passion, enthusiasm, and a desire to learn!
- Optional apprenticeship: You’ll also have the option to take on an apprenticeship alongside your role.
This internship is part of our mission to bring more diversity and inclusion into the sports industry. You’ll be working on projects that matter to your community, across fundraising, communications, and programme delivery.
Who Should Apply?
We’re looking for young people who:
- Are enthusiastic about helping change the lives of others.
- Identify with underrepresented groups in the sports sector.
- Want to use sport to create positive change in communities across the UK.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a Transitions Intern, you’ll be a key member of our Programmes team, working to establish and maintain a strong pipeline of employers and young people for our apprenticeships. Using your own lived experience, you’ll inspire and guide young people who, like you, are navigating barriers to employment and education.
You’ll support young people throughout their entire journey with Coach Core—from recruitment to completing their apprenticeship and beyond. This means helping them transition into the programme, providing ongoing support as they progress, and assisting them in exploring their next steps after the apprenticeship, whether that’s employment, further education, or additional training.
How We’ll Support You
At Coach Core, you’ll be supported every step of the way. You’ll have a dedicated mentor, regular training through the Skills Builder framework, and a custom work plan designed just for you. This will help you develop key skills like problem-solving, self-belief, communication, and teamwork. Plus, you’ll get regular feedback and career planning to help you figure out where you want to go next in the sports industry.
