First-team Sport Scientist

The role combines a huge range of responsibilities and skill requirements. Tom spends a lot of time with players during training, both pitch and gym based, and is responsible for all the recovery and nutritional aspects on a day-to-day basis.

Always being interested in sport Tom originally want to be a Sports Physiotherapist before turning his attention to Sports Science. After Tom completed his undergraduate degree at Swansea University he undertook an MSc by Research alongside a 1 year internship at West Ham United before being offered a full-time role at the club.

On looking towards the future Tom says, “I hope to continue working in elite sport and am looking to work abroad in some aspect in the near future. I don’t have a ‘dream job’ at the moment, but I want to keep working in an environment in which I feel my role is respected and beneficial.”
