Sports Scientist & Physical Movement Coach (Internship 2022 – 2023)

This position is designed to lead, manage and deliver the sports science provision for the performance development of academy team squad members from the U8 – U21 age groups across the academy. They will also act as the club academy lead for physical performance and movement and ensure thorough support is provided to all academy age groups. The successful candidate will be expected to provide pre-match support for Reserve team fixtures and work with academy age groups on evenings throughout the week with occasional weekend work.

Main Roles & Responsibilities

  • Data analysis (e.g. workload, GPS)
  • Biomechanical assessments
  • Anthropometric assessments
  • Physiological and fitness assessments
  • Medical and physical screening
  • Predictive testing of size and shape/maturation measurement
  • Lead, deliver and enhance the Worksop Town FC’s academy physical performance provision in line with the club’s strategic objectives – to prevent injury and to enhance individual and collective athletic performance.
  • Manage and lead the development of long-term load and athletic development planning
  • Liaise daily with academy staff regarding the status and physical preparation required to reduce the risk of injury occurrence and maintain high performance and athletic development of academy squad members (i.e. monitoring and intervention) as well as with other members of the club’s medical team
  • Manage and deliver individual and group strength and conditioning and SAQ programmes
  • Ensure that appropriate recovery and injury prevention strategies are adopted after training and matches.
  • Implement appropriate diet and nutrition strategies by providing support to players & parents
  • Create relationships with academy staff, coaches, players and the wider Club staff to facilitate strong operational delivery and deliver the strategic aims.
  • Ensure detailed records of all care for the department are maintained in accordance with relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
  • Comply with all relevant regulatory bodies and legislation and maintain professional conduct at all times.
  • Ensure all medical notes are up to date within 24 hours of treatment
  • Create and coordinate an effective CPD programme for academy departmental staff as appropriate.
  • Be proud to represent Worksop Town Football Club and leave a lasting legacy at the end of the internship programme by making a difference to the player performance environment

Experience / Qualifications / Training

  • Relevant degree qualification (or working towards) in Sports Science, Physical Education, Sports rehabilitation or a related field
  • Previous working experience and knowledge of the development of physical performance
  • High levels of communication skills, both orally and written
  • Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office
  • Personable and enthusiastic with a strong work ethic
  • Good team player who can work on own initiative
