Job Purpose

  • To create new and support existing Special Olympics programmes through the development of networks and effective partnerships in target areas of England
  • To implement projects aimed at increasing participation and inclusion in sport for people with intellectual disabilities in line with the Special Olympics GB strategy
  • To support where appropriate on the organisation’s strategic and structural development

External Relationships

  • County sports partnerships and community sports providers
  • Nation-wide and sub-regional partner organisations from the Disability, Health and Education sectors
  • Local government
  • Disability and intellectual disability sector organisations (local – national)

Internal Relationships

  • Develop effective working with other departments of Special Olympics GB

Scope of the Job

Growth and Development:

  • Work with the Partnership Manager to identify and develop partnerships in order to create new Special Olympics programmes within designated areas of England
  • Lead delivery of the National Growth Project in line with the National Development Strategy and wider Special Olympics GB strategic goals
  • Provide delivery support (as directed by Partnership Manager) to other funded work streams
  • Manage the capture of impact and insight data (quantitative and qualitative) for all work areas within the responsibility of the post
  • Support new Special Olympics GB programmes through the Accreditation process including providing advice and support in training and succession planning
  • Work alongside the Partnership Manager and Programme Development Manager to ensure newly established programmes are transitioned into Special Olympics Great Britain’s core membership offer


  • Assist with the organisation of the National Summer Games, including lead responsibility for designated areas as agreed


  • Represent and promote Special Olympics Great Britain at relevant events
  • Attend (as agreed) Special Olympics competitions


  • Support Special Olympics GB funding managers with applications relating to the areas of responsibility within the post
  • Support new Special Olympics Programmes with identification of funding sources and plans for income generation

Workforce and Organisational Development:

  • Work as a proactive member of the Sports and Development department through supporting others in areas of expertise and sharing best practice with other staff


  • Provide regular updates to the Special Olympics Great Britain website pages and contribute to quarterly national newsletter
  • Provide information to the communications team to assist with media events and the writing of press releases

Planning and Reporting:

  • Compile work plans, budgets and progress reports as required internally and to external partners and funding agencies

Policies and Procedures:

  • Promote and maintain Special Olympics’ policies including those relating to health and safety, equity and the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults
