National Citizen Service – Team Leader

Do something amazing with your summer…

National Citizen Service (NCS) is a government-funded programme that brings together young people aged 15-17 year olds and engages them in a unique, four week programme (also referred to as a wave):

Phase 1: 5 day residential (YHA Howarth, Keighley) taking part in exhilarating challenges and team building activities.

Phase 2: 5 day residential (Sheffield) taking part in team challenges and learning life skills.

Phase 3: 10 day social action – comprised of planning and delivering a community project.

Phase 4: Graduation ceremony for young people to receive their NCS certificate.

NCS is designed to empower young people as they transition into young adults, engaging them in activities that challenge, build confidence and develop skills. More details can be found at

We are recruiting Team Leaders to support teams of up to 15 young people through our 2019 NCS summer programme. As a Team Leader you will have a direct impact upon participant experience and you will be expected to guide, inspire and help to develop your team of young people. You will be supported by a Team Assistant and together you will ensure the successful delivery of our NCS summer programme whilst maintaining participant enjoyment, respect and safety throughout.

We are looking to build a diverse staff team and welcome applicants with a range of skill-sets and life-experience. Applicants should be passionate about working with young people and have relevant experience and knowledge – please see the job vacancy link below.

Successful candidates will be asked to attend a compulsory training assessment programme (dates to be confirmed) to equip you with specialist knowledge and relevant skills regarding working on NCS. This will include First Aid, Youth Mental Health First Aid and residential training.

In return you can earn up to £1400 per wave worked, subject to the successful completion of the training assessment programme.
