The Board of Directors of the Rugby League European Federation (RLEF) is seeking to appoint an Independent Director for a renewable two-year term to assist the Board in the delivery of its 2018-2025 strategic cycle, with 2018 being the final year of its current strategy.
The RLEF strategy is based upon the federation’s core values of Empowerment, Dynamism and developing a rugby league Culture in its member nations, and its implementation has seen membership grow from seven countries in 2010 to 36 at the end of 2017, with an expectation that over 40 nations will be members by the end of 2018.
Rugby league’s rapid international growth means that the RLEF is the de facto governing body for the northern hemisphere, and consequently the Board is seeking particular experience and skillsets to assist the federation to (a) support its diverse membership, and (b) commercialise the elite European Championship.
The Board is seeking applications from candidates with a strong background in any of the following:
• International sporting relations (particularly in the Middle East and Africa)
• European Union / European Commission (particularly Erasmus+ expertise)
• Fund-raising (particularly in the Middle East and Africa)
Successful candidates will be expected to attend Board Meetings, normally four-to-five per year, where they will provide help, guidance, advice and support to the executive team, as well as sitting on one sub-committee of the federation, which usually meets remotely. Board meetings are usually in London, where the RLEF is based, but can be abroad.
The position is a voluntary post but reasonable expenses will be met to assist in undertaking the duties. The successful candidate will be appointed initially until the RLEF Annual Council Meeting in 2020.
Applications should be made in writing, including a letter of application and a current CV, to the RLEF Ltd company secretary at firstname.lastname@example.org. Closing date for applications is 5pm (UK time) on 7 May 2018
