West Ham United Foundation (WHUF) is seeking an outstanding candidate for the role of Higher Education Manager to provide effective leadership and ensure exceptional learning experience for students across the collaborative degree programmes in partnership with the University of East London (UEL).
The collaborative degree programmes – FdSc Community Sports Management and BSc (hons) Sports Coaching and Performance – offer students a unique chance to combine a programme of academic study with work placements across WHUF. Through the links to a Premier League Football Club, students are provided with a range of exclusive opportunities giving them an insight into the sector and equipping them with the skills needed to be successful.
We are looking for an exceptional lecturer who understands community sport, sports coaching and can effectively engage and motivate a diverse range of students. The successful candidate will have passion and commitment to make a real difference to the learning experiences, and lives, of the students on programme.
We have ambitious targets for both collaborative degree programmes and the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to programme growth and strategic development. Reporting to the Head of Learning, the position is based between the UEL Docklands Campus and WHUF’s Beckton Office. There may also be occasional outreach work across East London and home working.
The collaborative programmes are a key element of WHUFs’ vision to maximise life-chances and inspire better futures for all. This role provides an opportunity to shape and develop a truly unique programme within the H.E. sector.
In addition, the successful candidate will support the development and delivery of wider programmes within the Foundation, where required.
• To act as WHUF programme lead for the collaborative degree programmes, this currently includes, but is not restricted to:
- FdSc Community Sport Management
- BSc Sports Coaching & Performance
- To support students throughout their programme, both academically and as a personal tutor.
• To manage the H.E staff team.
• To lead curriculum development and support the wider learning pathway development across the WHU Foundation.
• To oversee and contribute to the preparation of teaching material as required for the allocated teaching contact hours.
• Deliver innovative and inclusive teaching across the WHUF and UEL collaborative degree programmes, especially in relation to community sport, professional development and sports coaching.
• Ensure the application of robust assessment processes and the provision of regular and constructive student feedback.
• To undertake university, WHU Foundation and module administrative duties in consultation with the UEL programme leader where necessary.
• To work closely with the Club’s Academy to ensure a successful partnership and create a sector leading experience for students.
• Engage with industry partners to ensure module delivery has currency from a professional practice and prospective employer perspective.
• Contribute to and drive the marketing and student recruitment strategy and manage a range of events for new students, raising the awareness of the degree programmes.
• Contribute to H.E budget and finance.
• To support the development of further H.E collaborative programmes.
• To contribute to the wider development of the WHU Foundation and Learning department.
• To keep up to date on the subject area and relevant policy and research developments.
• To undertake professional development by participating in staff development (CPD) and training activities.
• Understand and adhere to safeguarding and risk management policies and procedures, especially linking to student placements.
• To proactively support and promote WHUF’s equal opportunities policy and EDI initiatives.
