17SIXTY is the first of its kind facility in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia dedicated to the provision of World Class Sporting activities and learning along the Kingdom’s magical stretch of Red Sea Coastline. Based in Durrat AL Arous, just 40 minutes from Jeddah, daily sea breezes, warm water and breathtaking underwater life make the area a water sports enthusiasts’ paradise.

17SXTY’s goal is to provide a center of excellence for people to experience water sports for the first time, learn new skills and get comfortable in this aquatic environment all the way through to forging a career in water sports, whether it be as an athlete, teacher, or technician. The 17SIXTY Academy will offer formal training and accreditation across all its sports and roles with a state-of-the-art facility already under construction.

About The Head of Water Sports Academy Role

The role will involve the general management of all sports divisions for 17SIXTY, to include the natural sports division (wind sports like windsurfing, kiting and sailing, Paddle Sports such as SUP, and Kayak and foiling, whether it be paddle, wing, windsurf or kite ) the diving division and the motor sports division (jet ski, Wakeboard, Water-skiing, E-foil, Parasailing). We are looking for an experienced and well qualified candidate with a strong and diverse water sports background, with powerboat certification and experience to operate and supervise safety craft a must.

A Typical Day in the Job

Work will consist of a 40-hour, five-day week with two days off each week and are 30 days holiday. While the Academy is under construction, the role will require hands on management of programming and team development and lead to the management of the Team Leaders of each Business Division

Projected programming will require two half day activity sessions per day, per instructor, which can include SUP, Windsurfing, Sailing, Cat sailing and Foiling activities. In addition, it is expected that each instructor will work an average of one evening activity session per week. As Head of Academy, you will act as emergency contact for other junior instructors and leaders. Activity days are highly structured as programmes must run on time. However, we have private courses where the normal routine will change and so you must be adaptable.

This is not a 9 to 5 job, as you will be the leader of and point person for the team, so if you are not prepared for this kind of responsibility, this is not a job for you.

Minimum Experience

  • 8+ Years instructing two or more of the water sports
  • Middle East experience preferred
  • Team leadership experience
  • Passion for water-sports and the environment.
  • Experience in youth and adult water sports program area systems, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Computer skills needed, particularly with Microsoft Office and email applications, along with ability to learn the internal software program.

Essential responsibilities

  • strong Instructional techniques gained by instructing and having qualification in a wide range of water sports activities
  • prepare along with the COO and the Head of Water safety the divisions KPI by track
  • by-weekly meeting with COO, Head of Water safety and other Head of Business units
  • manage company’s overall budget in collaboration with the managers in charge of a budget: operations, merchandising, communication, sport development, and account management.
  • monitor company finances in collaboration with the Head of Finances and administration
  • build yearly budget with the business unit head and Finance Department, define resources
  • needed, create operational planning and insure follow up of all new initiatives and projects related to the business development.
  • manage human resources and hiring process with the help of the Human Resources Department
  • ensure all SOP’s are promptly adhered to and followed by all employees
  • ensure all H&S procedures are promptly adhered to and followed by all employees
  • completely understand and enforce water sports rules and regulations
  • check on weather forecast daily before any water sport activities commence
  • ensure all customers fill out the appropriate wavers
  • ensure all payments are received before guests avail of water sports facilities
  • ensure Academy and facilities is kept tidy and clean and all equipment are stored neatly
