This Head of Rugby  is a brilliant opportunity to become part of Mad Dog Sport, owned by former England Rugby International, Lewis Moody, which integrates rugby programmes into State Schools and Academies. The programmes sit alongside academic studies; with a focus on personal development and keeping boys in education, using rugby as a tool.

We are looking for a new team member who wants to challenge themselves, develop their skills and gain experience as a Head Coach and mentor at our Mad Dog programme based out of Park House School, Newbury. Applicants will need to be passionate and focused about the development of young players between the ages of 16-18, both on and off the field, as well as have the ability to coach and inspire young players between 11-15 years old. A large part of the role is pastoral care. They will also need to be extremely organised and efficient with their administration skills.

Successful applicants will be supported through 1-2-1 goal setting and mentoring with Lewis Moody and helped to develop as a coach with our Head of Rugby Operations, with encouragement to pursue further CPD’s and coaching qualifications through England Rugby

Head of Rugby Minimum requirement:

  • Aged 23 or over
  • England Rugby coaching Award (formally known as, Level 2) qualification or equivalent, with aspiration to achieve Level 3
  • Coaching experience 3 years +
  • Excellent organisation and communication skills
  • A positive and encouraging attitude towards character development in young people.
  • Full clean Driving license

Preferable experience or qualifications:

  • Strength and Conditioning/Personal Training (Level 1)
  • Mad Dog Sport is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young adults. Successful candidates will be offered the role but will need to be DBS Advance checked before being confirmed in position.
  • New coaches are put through a first aid course, specifically for sport if not up to date.

Head of Rugby Job Description:

To fully deliver the coaching values, skills and training as laid out in the Mad Dog Rugby programme.

To plan and deliver training sessions.

To make team selection and attend all match day fixtures.

Conduct post match analysis through video footage.

Deliver the Athletic development programme.

Deliver a basic understanding of healthy eating, sports nutrition and wellbeing through classroom sessions (modules provided).

Support school coaches to implement lunch time and after school rugby clubs, helping to develop as necessary, to create an aspirational pathway into the Junior Academy

Run the Junior Academy (Y10/11) to instil Mad Dog values and create an aspirational pathway into the 6th form programme.

Sign off all administration for pre season and trip forms.

Have clear communication with academic tutors to monitor progress of student studies, attendance and support them in their sporting and academic goals.

Be the local clubs point of contact to give open communication re injury and workload of players.

Be proactive in recruitment across the community in both schools and clubs.

Social Media content delivery.

The position will commence from the 18th August 2021.

40 hours p/w, generally 8am-4pm with flexibility around the timetable and dependant on away fixture returns.

Based out of Park House School with some travel outside of the area required.

Optional pension, CPD’s and over 10 weeks holiday per year.
