Head of Governance & Compliance

HOURS:  Full Time (37 Hours per week)

LOCATION: Based at the National Water Sports Centre, Holme Pierrepont, Nottingham

SALARY: Up to £55,000 per annum, dependent upon experience.

British Canoeing is the United Kingdom’s Governing Body for the sport and recreation of canoeing and kayaking.  This is an exciting time to join British Canoeing, as we are making progress in delivering Stronger Together – an exciting and ambitious strategy for Paddlesport in the UK (2017–2021).

The successful applicant will lead on all governance, compliance and legal work across the organisation with a particular focus on safeguarding and case management. Other areas will include: ensuring compliance with the UK Code for Sports Governance to ensure that best practice is adopted throughout the organisation and that policies in key areas are reviewed and updated accordingly. The role will also encompass all legal matters affecting the organisation, including drafting contracts, contract management, compliance, disputes, disciplinary and liaison with external lawyers and providing guidance on key areas such as data protection.

Reporting to the CEO and a key member of the senior management team, we are looking for a team player who has energy and drive to effectively lead the Governance and Compliance team. Significant experience in managing disputes, disciplinary and safeguarding cases is essential.

Candidates should have a proven track record in developing successful partnerships with key stakeholders, strong communication and relationship building skills as well as the ability to resolve problems and progress matters in a timely and proactive manner.  An understanding of NGB’s and the sports system in the UK is also essential. Experience of working with volunteers, preferably within the sporting sector is also an advantage.
