NIST International School seeks a highly experienced and forward ­thinking Head of Football from August 2021 at the very latest. This is a new position at the school.

Main Responsibilities

In consultation with the Director of Athletics & Activities, the Head of Football will be responsible for the creation of a new Football Academy at the school. This will include the design, delivery, and supervision of the Football programme and its resources. The post holder will be responsible for the strategic planning and delivery of a diverse programme that caters to the full range of Football aptitudes and abilities of the NIST student body. The post holder will be expected to share a vision of creating football opportunities for all by providing quality experiences through intentional teaching and coaching. The Head of Football will work closely with the Director of Athletics & Activities, the Assistant Director of Athletic & Activities, the Elementary, Middle and High School Physical Education teachers, NIPTA, Finance, Communications, and Marketing Departments. The Head of Football will report to the Director of Athletics & Activities.

Programme Development

  • Strategic planning of the recreational, development, and competitive Football programmes
  • To deliver a clear vision and supporting strategy for the Academy
  • To align the Academy’s playing and coaching philosophy with the School’s mission, vision and values and the Athletic Department’s sports philosophy
  • Devise pre-testing and selection systems for competitive programmes and streams
  • Coordination of the competitive Football team calendar, invitational competitions, local Bangkok and regional SEASAC Championships and, overseas trips and competitions
  • Planning and provision of appropriate facilities and equipment to support the Football programme
  • Observe, develop, and evaluate players’ progress, and communicate this progress appropriately
  • Facilitate the efficient movement of students to and from as well as between programmes
  • Effectively manage parent expectations in relation to players’ development

Strategic Leadership

  • Development, mentoring, and quality assurance of a team of coaches
  • Support and drive the leadership team for the Football programme (Head & part-time coaches, and Football academy administrator)

Health & Safety

  • Implementation and monitoring of child safeguarding and football academy health and safety policies and practice


  • Development and monitoring of budgeting, planning, delivery, and monitoring systems
  • Design and implementation of the Football communication strategies and systems

Person Specifications

Qualifications and Experience

  • Preferred Bachelor’s degree in education in Physical Education or related sports field
  • Preferred UEFA B Licence or equivalent certificate/ qualifications in coaching football
  • Experience of working within Football Academy programmes and extensive experience and expertise in the coaching of football
  • CPR/First Aid/AED Certification preferred
  • At least 3 years of experience within a Football leadership role or managing a Football coaching team
  • Minimum 5 years of successful coaching experience supported by references to include a detailed understanding of the performance needs of developing football players
  • Experience in developing training programmes for competitive players across all ability levels
  • Experience in organizing football tournaments/ competitions/ events preferred

  • Skill in fostering productive relationships with other coaches and be able to encourage creativity and contribution from others. Ability to work effectively with colleagues both within football and from other departments
  • Shows integrity and is fair, equitable, and ethical in approach. Protects confidential information, adheres to policies, and demonstrates commitment to football and the academy
  • Understanding and appreciation of the field of talent identification, selection, and confirmation and how this can contribute to the development of football
  • Have high levels of personal integrity and enjoy connecting with all members of our community
  • Share a commitment to NIST values with an enthusiasm for the value of sport within the NIST mission
