SGS College have an exciting opportunity for a Director of Rugby at our WISE campus.

The SGS College Director of Rugby will be responsible for the growth, development and success of our prestigious rugby programmes including Male Rugby Union, Female Rugby Union and our Higher Education Rugby League provision. The SGS Academy is a successful Sports Academy model with a focus on player development.

The SGS Rugby Academy perform in the highest-level of College Rugby known as the A.C.E league. SGS Rugby Academy have an illustrious history with visits to the A.C.E final and winners of Rosslyn Park 7’s. Both our male and female athletes are also selected to be part of the DISE Rugby apprenticeship programme which supports the athletes with the off-field development.

The SGS Rugby Academy has developed a strong partnership link with Bristol Bears and aligns the Academy programme to the Bristol Bears Academy player development programme. This partnership has seen many male and female athletes sign professional contracts, providing a clear pathway into professional Rugby.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic direction, leadership, oversight and management of the Rugby programmes (Rugby League and Union) at SGS.
  • Plan, implement and manage the coaching programme for male and female Rugby and Male Rugby League covering College FE, HE Academy squads and community clubs.
  • Develop commercial opportunities in Rugby in conjunction with the Director of Academy & Community Sport and the WISE Campus Manager.
  • Manage a small team to oversee Rugby at SGS, including all Rugby Union and League coaches
  • Build a culture of excellence, innovation and learning that supports student athlete development throughout Rugby at SGS.
  • Liaise and work directly with Bristol Bears around the development of Rugby at SGS and the Bristol area.

Beneficial Skills & Qualifications

  • RFU Level 4 Coaching qualifications
  • Relevant, updated coaching certificates
  • Experienced coach at Youth and elite Level
  • Knowledge of ACE Rugby
  • Well contacted and respected throughout the Game
