Welcome/Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to become a Digital Content Assistant at Hockey Wales, the national governing body of hockey in Wales.

Following the success of our senior teams at the recent World Cup Qualifiers, this is a very exciting time to be involved in our sport. As our national teams are now regularly competing against some of the best teams on the world stage, we are striving to increase engagement with hockey in Wales.

The Digital Content Assistant will support our Communications and Marketing team to promote hockey across Wales, improving engagement and participation.

About the role

The Digital Content Assistant will work closely with our Communications and Marketing Manager to create content for our digital channels, and update and maintain the Hockey Wales website.

They will also assist with key communication and marketing campaigns, such as promoting events and international competitions.

This role is ideal for a recent content creation/marketing/communications graduate or student looking to gain real world experience.

The position is available as a fully remote role, with the exception of attending team days and major events hosted by Hockey Wales.

Main duties

  • Work with the Communications and Marketing Manager to successfully implement our digital marketing strategy
  • Create a wide range of engaging content, including social media posts, blogs, news articles, and newsletters
  • Increase website traffic by creating SEO content
  • Help to optimise and maintain the website
  • Monitor website and social media analytics with tools such as Google Analytics and Google Search Console
  • Engage with hockey clubs across Wales to develop content ideas and news for the website
  • Schedule content for social media and assist with the daily running of these channels
  • Design basic graphics and edit photos for social media using design software such as Canva
  • Support in delivering campaigns for key events and competitions
  • Lead on internal communication and be a point of contact for staff to share relevant information on socials platforms and the website

Person Specification

Experience

  • Qualification in content creation/marketing/communications or equivalent experience in a related role
  • Experience of creating digital content for social media channels and websites
  • Experience of writing engaging copy for online audiences

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of web management systems (ideally Wix but not required)
  • Knowledge of content management systems such as Hootsuite
  • Knowledge of graphic design tools such as Canva
  • Basic understanding of SEO
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office

Skills:

  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Good written and spoken Welsh (desirable but not essential)
  • Ability to write accurate and engaging copy
  • Ability to adapt writing style to suit different channels and audiences
  • Video editing and production skills (desirable but not essential)
  • Highly organised with the ability to prioritise effectively
  • Excellent time-management skills
  • Ability to work on own initiative
  • Flexible and willing to sometimes work outside of normal working hours
  • Evidence of personal drive to ensure continued professional development
