We are looking for passionate and dedicated coaches, who can deliver safe, fun, and inspiring sports sessions in schools and in the communities of Greater Bristol and Bath and North-East Somerset.   • Community Head Coach

Working closely with our partner schools, the role will be primarily focussed on managing our day-to-day provision of PE and sport in several partner schools who are part of Forever Sport, our established and successful primary school coaching programme. As well as providing first class coaching, you will be responsible for ensuring that all aspects of the programme are delivered and communicated to the highest standards.

Working closely with our Forever Sport specialist coaches, you will play a key role in helping children to fall in love with sport. The role also involves working with primary school teaching staff to enthuse, upskill, and develop their confidence to deliver first class curriculum PE. This role presents a fantastic opportunity to join a forward-thinking charity that harnesses the power of sport to positively change lives.

What we expect from you:

  • Hold at least one Level 1 UKCC coaching qualification.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience of coaching children.
  • Have the right to work in the UK.
  • A full valid UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
  • A passion for inspiring children to fall in love with sport and physical activity.
  • The desire to support young people on both participation and performance pathways in sport.
  • The ability to deliver a range of fun and engaging sports activities to school children.

Offices based at Ashton Gate Stadium; however, coaching delivery will be in schools and leisure facilities throughout Greater Bristol and Bath and North-East Somerset.

Working hours:

35 per week. Mainly weekdays from 9am – 4.30pm with an unpaid lunchbreak.

Contract type:

A fixed term contract until August 31st, 2022. This is 100% expected to be extended subject to performance and funding.


£18,000 – £21,000 dependent on level of qualifications, experience, and the strength of the application.

Person specification and responsibilities

Qualifications Essential

  • Hold at least one Level 1 UKCC coaching qualification.



  • Hold at least one Level 2 UKCC coaching qualification.
  • A sports coaching, sports science, or sports related degree.
  • Hold an emergency first aid for work certificate.


Experience Essential

  • A minimum of 2 years sports coaching experience in a paid or voluntary capacity, ideally in a primary school environment.



  • 3 years or more sports coaching experience in a paid or voluntary capacity, ideally in a primary school and a range of environments including schools/clubs/community settings.


Skills & Competencies Essential

  • Passionate about physical education, sport, and physical activity.
  • Passionate about helping children to fall in love with sport and physical activity.
  • An ability to enthuse and inspire children and adults.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability and willingness to work outside of normal hours when required.
  • Must be self-motivated with the ambition to develop as a person as well as progressing their career as a sports coach and sports development practitioner.
  • To manage their schools, developing an effective relationship with the pupils, staff, SLT, governors and parents (the whole school community).
  • To deliver high quality child-centered sports coaching, maximising enjoyment, participation, and pupil progress.
  • To co-ordinate and support their assistant and sport specialist coaches.
  • To undertake the necessary planning for each session to ensure that their coaching demonstrates progression throughout, is aligned to the national curriculum and the relevant NGB guidelines.
  • To ensure all equipment required for each coaching session is present, correctly set up, maintained, and stored safely when not in use.
  • To deliver BSF’s Teacher Mentoring programme to enthuse school staff and develop their knowledge and confidence through team teaching, provision of lesson plans, pre-mentoring questionnaires and post-mentoring monitoring and evaluation.
  • Co-ordinate and complete pupil assessments with their assistant and sport specialist coaches.
  • Promote and take responsibility for driving the Forever Sport after school club participation numbers.
  • To identify and communicate case studies that demonstrate the positive impact of the programme.
  • To implement appropriate Health and Safety policies and procedures in line with BSF guidelines, NGB guidelines and each school’s own policies.
  • To continually monitor and evaluate all sessions, activities, and relationships with the ultimate vision of improving the quality, impact, and reputation of the Forever Sport programme.
  • To communicate regularly and effectively with their schools, co-coaches, line manager and the Head of Programmes.
  • To take responsibility for their own continuous professional development to improve their coaching delivery, including engaging with and learning from the sports specific coaches delivering alongside them.
