Job Purpose

To review, evaluate, construct and develop a scouting system for the Club that will allow Grasshopper Club Zurich to identify and recruit players that will play a major role in the success of our teams.

Reports to: Technical Director

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and evaluate the current system of recruitment and following input from key partners* outline a strategy for its enhanced development going forward
  • Development of a Club wide solution incorporating a player identification and recruitment strategy at all levels from Academy through to the Professional Department
  • Ensure that this system is well developed, organised and maintained to a high level to enhance player identification and recruitment at all levels
  • This system should include provision for a local, regional, national and International scouting network to fulfil the above criteria.
  • Develop and maintain a database of player details at all required levels through appropriate mechanisms of reporting
  • Gain a detailed understanding of players currently within the GCZ system (with specific reference to U21 / U18 players) to determine opportunities for player progression to the 1st team
  • Speak with the Technical Director as at when agreed on potential targets
  • Work with the Technical Director to produce a strategy for signing targeted players
  • Prepare detailed player reports as part of a stringent process to support the successful signing of identified players
  • Develop an appropriate Match Reporting mechanism to ensure the effective scouting of opposition in support of first team preparations for fixtures
  • Develop and Deliver an appropriate in-service training programme for all scouts to support the successful identification of appropriate target players
  • Identify and recruit scouts where deemed appropriate
  • Ensure there is a standardised scout reporting mechanism as part of the overall player identification and recruitment process
  • Devote an appropriate amount of time to ensure that a ‘hands on’ approach to scouting results in the successful identification of key players at all levels
  • As and when required, to work collaboratively with others across a group structure

Person Specification

Essential –

  • Previous experience in a similar scouting/talent ID role (senior scouting role)
  • Talent Identification Award (or working towards this)
  • Strong industry contacts and networking skills
  • Proven ability to identify talent within football
  • Up to date Talent ID certificate
  • Up to date Child Protection Certificate
  • Full Driving Licence
  • Attention to detail and well organised
  • Ability to make decisions in a timely manner
  • Outstanding Influencing skills
  • Excellent Communication skills
  • Ability to operate calmly and clearly in a pressurised environment
  • Willing to challenge the status quo and be open minded to ideas
  • Ability to work in a challenging environment
  • Able to establish and maintain strong working relationships
  • Experience of developing and leading a high-performance culture
  • Proven experience of developing and delivering a recruitment strategy to enable the club to compete at the highest level

Desirable –

  • German language skills/willingness to develop German language skills
  • Previous experience within Swiss football
  • Understanding of working within a Group organisation structure

Compensation & Location

The salary for this role will be dependent on the background and experience of the chosen candidate.

The role will be based predominantly at the Clubs premises in Zurich, but will require national and international travel.
